We know that raising funds can be fun but hard work and that your PTA's do an amazing job. There are loads of school fundraising ideas out there, so we thought it might be useful to list a few of them here, with links to sites that can help.

You can use these fundraising ideas to engage with and energise your school community so that they can help you really make a difference to the facilities and experiences that you can offer to your pupils.

Set up a silent auction, ticket shop, pop up shop or an online marketplace

Get your pupils to dress as their favourite character from a book

You can raise money for good causes while shopping online, without spending a single extra penny.

'Amazon Affiliates'- www.affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk

Amazon Associates provide a share of all sales generated from links to its website. It allows schools to generate revenue each time a purchase is made with an affiliate link. For every purchase made through these links, your school could earn up to 10% in advertising fees from Amazon's affiliate program.

School lottery - www.yourschoollottery.co.uk

It may be hard to imagine but one in four schools now have their own lottery and these are popular and an effective way of fundraising. They also sound like a nightmare to run but they don't have to be. Supporters can join for as little as £1 per week and it doesn't cost the school anything.

Tea towels, mugs, bags, cards, aprons, bags for life, bears, calendars, school labels – the lot. Personalisation is key because it fuels ownership. Children draw an image of themselves and these are grouped as a class and a school onto a product. 'Self-portrait' fundraising is always popular because it feeds into keep sake culture of sentimentality and children love seeing their artwork on merchandise.

Art Attack

Get your pupils to take part in an arty competition based on a fun theme

Car Wash

Get the sponges out and let the pupils wash parents cars – for a fee of course! Jokes – Ask each pupil to bring in their favourite joke and a £1 or £2 donation and hold a class or school assembly dedicated to joke telling.

Quiz night

Organise an evening for parents to compete in teams and charge an entrance fee. You could also provide food etc to make more of an event of it.

Christmas Shopping Evening

Do you have a creative bunch of parents or children? See if any would like to set up a stall selling their items at a Christmas shopping evening and collect either entry or stall fees.

Cake Sales

The classic after school fundraising idea. Maybe make it into a competition in the style of a bakeoff!

Christmas Tree Sale

Source cost price Christmas trees and sell them to parents in the lead up to Christmas

Easter Egg Hunt

Chocolate, small children, hidden around the school, small fee, simple!

Fun Run

Do you have a running track marked out or a sports field? Set up a fun run and encourage pupils and parents to run a specific distance or number of laps. Could be a sponsored event or charge an entrance fee.

Walk to School Breakfast

Get the children to walk to school rather than be driven. Offer pastries and juice for a small fee.

Mufti Day

Leave the uniform at home and dress in something else. Maybe each class could dress in the colours of specific flags.

Carol Singing

Got a school choir or vocal parents? Download some carol singing sheets and off you go.

Fancy Dress

Let the pupils dress in fancy dress based on a theme or just their imagination. Suggest a voluntary contribution. Sponsored walk, run, sing, dance, skip One of the classics!

Talent contest

Why not run your own talent contest encouraging everyone to have a go at something, think Britain's Got Talent.

Treasure Hunt

Write some clues and hide a prize, simple!
